DATA CENTERS

Fracked gas pipelines can act as catalysts for data center development by providing access to large, continuous energy supplies that these facilities require to operate at scale. This introduces significant risks to both natural ecosystems and human health. Data center development is becoming an increased concern, especially in rural communities.

Data centers require massive power consumption that strains electrical grids and raises utility rates for residents, heavy water usage that depletes local resources, and creates localized air and noise pollution generated by cooling fans and backup diesel generators. Studies also show that data centers create a "heat island effect", and that these facilities can increase local temperatures by an average of 3.6°F (2°C), with spikes reaching up to 16°F, affecting areas up to 6 miles away.
