Pollinators & Pollinator Gardens

The Waterfall Center recognizes the current risks faced by pollinators in a changing climate, and what that can mean for our biodiversity, food systems and also human health. We are exploring projects around creating pollinator gardens and corridoors as well as educational and engagement opportunities within the bioregion.

As we research, we are compiling a list of useful resources that pertain to education around the issues and solutions around protecting our pollinators.

Pollinators Under Pressure

Tree Media released a new film, Pollinators Under Pressure, about the plight of pollinators around the world and the actions we can all take to ensure their survival, and that of humans and ecosystems everywhere.

Beescape

Beescape is a web-based tool developed by Penn State University to help beekeepers, gardeners, urban planners, growers, researchers, and land managers assess the quality of their landscapes for supporting bees and other pollinators. Bees can fly up to 3 miles (5 kilometers) from their nest to find food, and Beescape provides an easy way for you to explore the landscapes surrounding your location.

Bumble Bee Watch

Bumble Bee Watch is a collaborative effort to track and conserve North America’s bumble bees. Participating in Bumble Bee Watch is simple and you can get started now by creating an account via the “sign in” tab at the top of the page. Once you have an account, go out and check your garden, in parks, or any other natural areas you frequent for bumble bees. Have fun while learning more about bumble bees and the vital role they play in our environment!

Butterflies & Moths of North America

The Butterflies and Moths of North America (BAMONA) project is an ambitious effort to collect and provide access to quality-controlled data about butterflies and moths for the continent of North America from Panama to Canada.
